Why Good Attendance is Important
Being present at school is essential for the healthy development of the child. When parents begin building the habit of attending school consistently and on time starting in preschool and Kindergarten, it provides the structure that supports children to be successful throughout their school and work years.
Remember that children can fall behind even if they miss just a day or two every few weeks, or even a few minutes every few days. Absences can affect the entire class when the teacher has to slow down in order to help children get caught up. Also keep in mind that just being late for school can lead to poor attendance in the future.
Ways to Support Your Child’s Good Attendance:
Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers or administration for advice on how to help them feel comfortable and excited about learning.
Plan family your vacations to coincide with school holidays
Develop back up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Ask for support from a family member, neighbor, or another parent.
Avoid planning family non-emergency doctor and dentist appointments when school is in session.
